Pre-Apprenticeship Plumber

The Pre-Apprenticeship Plumber program is a multi-disciplinary program that runs for 8 months. The program aims to give students the knowledge, skills and confidence required to enter into an Apprenticeship program as a Plumber or to pursue other Arctic College programs. Graduates of this course will be offered the opportunity to challenge the Plumber Apprenticeship Level 1 exam.

Students will train with a variety of tools, techniques, and materials in well-equipped shops. Trades related Math, Science and Communications forms a significant part of the curriculum. The program’s academic and technical training ensures students are able to apply theoretical knowledge to practical application. Pre-Apprenticeship programs integrate Guiding Principles of Inuit Qaujimaningit and recognizes the value of collaborative learning environments unique to Nunavut.

Admission Requirements

  • In order to enter this program, applicants must have the following education:
  • High school diploma including a minimum of English 13, Math 10 and 3 credits in Science
  • Must have passed the Trades Entrance Cluster 4 Exam or have scored 60% on the Nunavut Arctic College Trades Exam

Or, as Mature Student:

  • Must be a minimum of 18 years old and have been out of school for at least one school year
  • Must have passed the Trades Entrance Cluster 4 Exam or have scored 60% on the Nunavut Arctic College Trades Exam


Additionally:

  • All students must meet, at minimum, a College level 140 standing as determined by a placement test.
  • Full participation requires individuals to be physically capable of performing the work

Student Funding and Financial Assistance:

Application is made directly to FANS or other student funding providers within your regions. This program is eligible for students who meet the criteria as defined by FANS with the Department of Education.

Credit Transfer Opportunities:

On completion of the program students may be eligible to transfer up to 240 hours towards an approved Apprenticeship program through the Department of Education.

Employment Opportunities:

Apprentices are registered with the Department of Education through the assistance of Career Development Officers. The Department works closely with private businesses and Government sectors that are employers of apprentices who seek training.
