Pre-Employment

This program is a 28 week training program designed to enhance the employability of individuals. Training hours are divided equally between academic upgrading, job skills training, personal life skills, and job experience.

Admission Requirements:

Applicants wishing to apply to this program must:

  • be individuals who are preparing to enter or re-enter the workforce.
  • have an interest in preparing to enter the workforce
  • be willing to examine their lives to identify the barriers which are preventing them from finding employment and be prepared to work on developing an action plan to overcome these barriers.
  • have completed ABE English 110 and Math 110 or be assessed at ABE 120 in these subjects.

Applicant assessment:

Assessment is most effectively done by interviewing the applicant. At that time the level of interest in making personal changes can be determined. Formal assessments of English and Inuktitut Literacy levels as well as math numeric skills should also be completed to determine suitability.

Student Funding and Financial Assistance:

Funding for this program is by contract with various organizations and offered only when funding is available. Students may be eligible for Financial Assistance for Nunavut Students through the Department of Education.

Credit Transfer Opportunities:

Some courses in this program may be transferable to other Arctic College programs. Contact the Registrar's Office for complete details.

Employment Opportunities:

Graduates of the program can expect to find employment in both the public and private sectors. Successful completion of this program also increases self~ employment opportunities. While program completion does not ensure employment, graduates do have more options.
