The apprenticeship training for a Carpenter consist of four 12-month periods that includes 1,560 hours of on-the-job training, and for Nunavut, 10 weeks technical training per year.

Students will train with a variety of tools, techniques and materials in well-equipped shops. Trades specific Math and Sciences form part of the apprenticeship courses.
This program is designed to provide students with the basic knowledge and skills required to obtain employment in the food industry mainly at mining camps and other institutional camp settings. Through hands-on training and classroom instruction, the students will be able to enter the marketplace with confidence. Students will receive basic instruction in all aspects of camp cooking. Students will be able to pursue pre-employment cooking upon successful completion of this program.
The Culinary Arts Program provides students with the practical skills and knowledge they require to enter the culinary profession as trained cooks. Designed to assist aspiring cooks with the essentials, the program covers all aspects of food preparation, presentation and service at national standards. This program will prepare students to ladder into an apprenticeship program.
The Hairstylist Program is a two year diploma program with a Certificate exit option after the first year. It prepares students for employment as hairstylists and to manage their own salons.
Introductory Mine Training provides participants an introduction into mine operations and safe work habits, delivered over a 14 week period. The program provides the necessary foundation that is required to build up your skills in Math, Sciences and English required for seeking out entry level positions into the mining industry. The program will develop basic knowledge of standard terminology and practices used in the mining and the milling of minerals.
This is a pilot course, pre-training Record of achievement designed in collaboration with Nunavut and Federal governments, Canada-Nunavut Geo-science Office, Nunavut Arctic College, Regional Training Organizations, NTI and mineral exploration companies. This course will provide students with a marketable set of job knowledge skills, increasing their potential to be employed as prospectors or geologic field assistants either by mineral exploration companies or field research groups.
The Observer Communicator course is a multi-disciplinary program that runs for 9 to 11 weeks. Graduates of this program will have received the relevant skills required to perform the duties of an Observer Communicator at Nunavut airports. Training concentrates on radio simulations, radio communications, operating procedures, weather observing and recording. Students will train with a variety of tools, techniques and materials in well-equipped classroom/weather environments. Observer Communicator programs integrate the Guiding Principles of Inuit Quajimaningit and recognizes the value of collaborative learning environments unique to Nunavut.
The Pre-employment Carpenter program is a multi-disciplinary program that runs for eight months. The program aims to give students the knowledge, skills and confidence required to enter into an Apprenticeship program as a Carpenter or to pursue other Arctic College programs. Graduates of this course will be offered the opportunity to challenge the Carpenter Apprenticeship Level 1 exam.
The Pre-Apprenticeship Electrician program is a multi-disciplinary syllabus that runs for 8 months. The program aims to give students the knowledge, skills and confidence required to enter into an Apprenticeship Program as an Electrician or to pursue other Arctic College programs.
This OBM Pre-employment program is a multi-disciplinary syllabus that runs for 8 months. The program aims to give students the knowledge, skills and confidence required to enter into an Apprenticeship Program as Oil Burner Mechanic or to pursue other Arctic College programs. Graduates of this course will be offered the opportunity to challenge the Oil Burner Mechanic Apprenticeship Level 1 exam. Students will train with a variety of tools, techniques, and materials in well-equipped shops.
The Pre-Apprenticeship Plumber program is a multi-disciplinary program that runs for 8 months. The program aims to give students the knowledge, skills and confidence required to enter into an Apprenticeship program as a Plumber or to pursue other Arctic College programs. Graduates of this course will be offered the opportunity to challenge the Plumber Apprenticeship Level 1 exam.
This program is a 28 week training program designed to enhance the employability of individuals. Training hours are divided equally between academic upgrading, job skills training, personal life skills, and job experience.
Pre-trades is an academic trades preparation program that is offered over an 18 week period. The Pre-trades courses provide the necessary training that is required to build skills in Math, Science and English to successfully challenge the Department of Education’s Trades Entrance Exams, Levels 1 through 5. The program aims to provide the basis to enter into an Apprenticeship, or to pursue other Arctic College programs.
Trades Access is an academic trades preparation program that is offered over a 32 week period. This program provides fundamental academic upgrading in order to successfully challenge the Trades Entrance Exams, in Levels 1 through 5.
The program provides the necessary foundation in building skills in trades related Math, Science, English and Communications that are required to enter into an Apprenticeship, or to pursue other Arctic College programs.
