Arviat Head Office takes part in IQ day

It was decided that we go before the weather got too cold so we went on Thursday, September 26, 2013. There were at least 30 to 40 people who participated. ABE and NTEP students came along too. We cooked & BBQ at Tommy & Pelage’s cabin at Qinggujuaq.

We played games at the cabin while Elaine, Brenda and Byron took turns cooking, Albert made caribou aggiq too. Our elder, Phillip Kigusiutnak told the legend of Kiviuq and the majority of the people went down to “QIKIQTAARJUK” with him to see Kiviuq’s mother footprints that are engraved on a rock.

The group listened to stories and played traditional games too!

Everyone provided their own transportation and bringing their family was optional so there were children too who came along. For those who couldn’t come they still had to be at work and the Adult Basic Education and Nunavut Teacher Education Program students still had to be in class.

The guide brought his gun due to roaming polar bears near by and once they went down to the point they saw at least five bears.
